Typing and formatting
Block styles, the format toolbar, shortcuts, paste, images, and Kifuliiru autocomplete.
When tools are on
Click into a content page and type. The format toolbar is enabled only on those pages. On the cover, the tools dim and a hint tells you to click cover text or use the sidebar. If no content page is selected, the same hint asks you to pick one.
The toolbar keeps your selection when you press a button, so Bold does not dump the caret into nowhere.
Block styles
The style dropdown applies a block format to the current paragraph:
- Normal — body text (
p). - Title — section heading (
h2), used for chapter or card titles. - Subheading — secondary heading (
h3). - Quote — pull quote (
blockquote).
These are paragraph styles, not the book’s Look. Cover art and page size live in Design and in the properties sidebar. Body typeface is in the header Font dropdown, and also under Type in Properties.
Format toolbar
Tools are grouped. Tooltips name each control.
History
Undo and redo. Same as the keyboard shortcuts below.
Text
Next to Style, Font sets the body typeface for every content page — book serifs such as Georgia, Garamond, Baskerville, Literata, and Gentium, plus sans faces like Helvetica, Source Sans, and Atkinson. It stays available on the cover so you can change page type without leaving the header. Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough, clear formatting, superscript, and subscript follow. Clear formatting removes inline styles from the selection; it does not change the block style or the body font.
Align
Left, center, right, and justify. The active alignment stays highlighted.
Lists
Bullet list, numbered list, increase indent, decrease indent.
Insert
- Link — prompts for a URL and applies it to the selection.
- Table — inserts a 2×2 starter table you can extend by typing.
- Horizontal line — a divider in the flow.
- Upload image — pick a file from disk.
- Image from URL — prompt for an image address.
Images on the page can be resized; the new size is stored with the page HTML. Zoom (view group) does not change type size — it only scales how large the page looks on screen.
Shortcuts
These match the tooltips (Ctrl on Windows, ⌘ on macOS):
- Ctrl+B / ⌘B — bold
- Ctrl+I / ⌘I — italic
- Ctrl+U / ⌘U — underline
- Ctrl+Z / ⌘Z — undo
- Ctrl+Y / ⌘Y — redo
Enter at the end of a page creates or jumps to the next page, unless autocomplete is open. Shift+Enter stays on the same page.
Paste and images
Paste is plain text. Copied HTML from a browser or Word is not kept — only the words. That keeps Kifuliiru pages from inheriting foreign fonts and colors. Re-apply Title, lists, or bold after a large paste.
Kifuliiru autocomplete
While you type Kifuliiru at the end of a word, suggestions can appear from the Kifuliiru Lab lexicon. The status bar may show how many words loaded. Arrow keys move, Enter or Tab accepts, Esc closes. Full behavior is in Kifuliiru writing.
