Getting started
Open KEd Studio, write a Kifuliiru book, save a .ked.json package, and export.
What KEd Studio is
KEd Studio is the Kifuliiru Editor publishing studio. You design covers, write pages in the Kifuliiru language (and English, French, and Kiswahili), and keep a portable .ked.json package so the same book can move between the browser and the desktop app.
The homepage (/) is the studio — covers and pages in one place. /covers is a public gallery of Kifuliiru book covers. /topics is the shared list of book titles. Anyone can write a title that is still waiting. If a cover or book already uses a title, it stays on the list so people can see that work — but it cannot start a second book. A titled cover is an invitation to write. Two pages is a book.
Make a first book
Open the editor
Go to the book canvas. A blank book is created in the local library and titled
Untitled Kifuliiru Book. The title lives in the left sidebar under Book info — not in the header.Write and structure pages
Type on the page. Use Normal, Title, Subheading, and Quote from the style dropdown. Add pages from the left sidebar. The cover page is page 0. While you type Kifuliiru, autocomplete can suggest words from the Kifuliiru Lab lexicon — see Kifuliiru writing.
Design the look
Open Design. Look picks a template family. Cover is the compose canvas (background, artwork, layers). Interior sets page size, data layout, headers, and sections. Details are in Design & covers.
Export the KEd file
The header Export KEd file icon writes a
.ked.jsonfile. That file is the book: data, design settings, and saved page HTML. See the format reference.Export
PDF is available in the browser through the print dialog. Native PDF, DOCX, and high-resolution cover PNG are complete on desktop. Cover PNG also works in the browser when the cover page is selected.
Ways into a book
You do not have to start from a blank canvas.
.ked.json or a legacy package. A .ked-cover.json applies cover settings to the current book.GeneratorsHandoffA URL with ?handoff=, or a desktop kedstudio: link, opens a package from a generator or another session.CoversWrite from a coverOpen the Kifuliiru covers gallery. Pick a titled cover and start the book in the studio — even two pages.Where work is stored
KEd Studio keeps drafts in this browser. Each book in the library has its own draft, and the last-used book comes back when you reload. The status bar can show how many Kifuliiru lexicon words loaded for autocomplete. Clearing site data removes local books that were never saved to a file.
Treat .ked.json as the durable copy. Save it when you want a backup, a handoff to another machine, or an import into the desktop app.
On a phone
The editor uses a bottom dock: File, Pages, Format, and Design. Save from File is available in the desktop app. In the browser, save from a computer so you get the full .ked.json download.
